⚔️ANNUAL PERFORMANCE 2025🧱

Step back from the hubbub of everyday life as you embark on an explorational journey of death and resurrection. University Philharmonic Orchestra, CA, HKU proudly presents Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”, for the Annual Performance 2025. “Why have you lived? Why have you suffered? Is it all some huge, awful joke? We have to answer these questions somehow if we are to go on living—indeed, even if we are only to go on dying!” These are the questions Mahler posed in the powerful musical flood of the first movement, questions that would be answered in the ravishing finale, with the chorus’ “Resurrection” chorale, jubilant fanfares and pealing bells.

暫別日常生活的喧囂，踏上探索死亡與復活之旅。香港大學文化聯會大學管弦樂團將於週年音樂會2025呈獻古斯塔夫·馬勒的C小調第二交響曲《復活》。馬勒曾說：「你為何而活？你為何而受苦？這一切都是一場巨大且可怕的玩笑嗎？如果我們要繼續活下去，就必須以某種方式回答這些問題——事實上，即使我們只是要繼續死去！」這些問題在第一樂章的音樂洪流中被提出，而在華美的終章，合唱團的《復活》頌歌、輝煌的號角與迴盪的鐘聲將為這些問題找到答案。

FERSHMEN PERFORMANCE 2025: FORTUNA🍀

Step into the world of Fortuna — the ever-turning wheel of fate. This year's Freshmen Performance invites you on a journey of destiny, struggle, and triumph through music.

“Fortuna” reflects the spirit of new beginnings — the turn of the wheel that brings our young musicians to their first performance, and the shared destiny of audience and orchestra coming together in music. The evening opens with Farrenc Overture No. 2, a spirited and bold statement by one of the great women composers of the Romantic era. From there, we confront Beethoven Symphony No. 5, Mvt. 4 — the ultimate victory over fate, as darkness gives way to blazing triumph. Schumann Symphony No. 1, Mvt. 1 bursts forth with youthful optimism, echoing the springtime of both life and music. Finally, the night concludes with Webber Phantom of the Opera (arr. Calvin Custer), where love, passion, and destiny intertwine in one of the most iconic tales ever told on stage.

Alongside the orchestral programme, the evening will also feature chamber performances by our freshmen musicians — including string quartet, piano quintet, saxophone trio, trumpet trio and brass sextet. These intimate works showcase the versatility and artistry of our young performers.

"Fortuna" 邀請你隨著音樂，展開一段關於命運、掙扎與勝利的旅程。

"Fortuna" 象徵嶄新的開始——命運的齒輪開始轉動，帶領年輕樂手走向他們在港大的首次演出；同時象徵著觀眾與樂團在音樂中相聚、共享的命運。音樂會將以浪漫時期傑出女作曲家之一法倫克充滿朝氣與膽識的宣言《第二序曲》揭開序幕。隨後到貝多芬《第五交響曲》第四樂章——對命運的終極勝利，黑暗讓位於炙烈的凱旋。舒曼《第一交響曲》第一樂章及後發出青春的光芒，回響著生命與音樂的春天。最後，以韋伯舞台上最具代表性之一的傳奇《歌劇魅影》（編曲：卡爾文·卡斯特）為全場劃下句號，讓愛、激情與命運交織。

除了管弦樂曲目外，音樂會也會呈獻由新生樂手帶來的室樂演出——包括弦樂四重奏、鋼琴五重奏、色士風三重奏、小號三重奏及銅管六重奏，展現出新生的多樣性和藝術造詣。

SPRING CONCERT 2025: ONCE UPON A TIME...🧚🪿

Step into a realm of fantasy and wonder with our concert 𝙊𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙐𝙥𝙤𝙣 𝘼 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚…, a tribute to the timeless beauty of fairy tales, and a celebration of Ravel’s 150th anniversary. For the Spring Concert 2025, University Philharmonic Orchestra, CA, HKU brings to life beloved tales through a selection of works from the early Romantic to the 20th century. The programme opens with 𝘏é𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘥’𝘴 𝘡𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢 𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, a thrilling saga of pirate escapades, followed by 𝘙𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭’𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦, with each movement painting scenes from classic tales like “𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺”and “𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵”. Next, 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘷’𝘴 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘚𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘦 offers a fresh interpretation of this well-known fairy tale, and finally, the concert wraps up with 𝘚𝘶𝘬’𝘴 “𝘈 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘺 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦”, a lush and romantic portrayal that perfectly encapsulates the theme of the concert.

與我們的音樂會《幻羽仙蹤》一同踏入奇幻仙境，探索童話故事的永恆魅力，並慶祝拉威爾誕辰150週年。香港大學文化聯會大學管弦樂團將於春季音樂會2025，呈獻一系列從早期浪漫時期至20世紀的作品，喚醒那些耳熟能詳的童話故事。音樂會將以赫洛德的《海盜》序曲拉開序幕，展開一場驚心動魄的海盜冒險，隨後到拉威爾的《鵝媽媽》，每個樂章描繪着《睡美人》和《美女與野獸》等經典童話的場景。接著，浦羅哥菲夫的《灰姑娘第一組曲》將為這個廣為人知的童話帶來全新的詮釋，最後以蘇克的《童話》作結，這首充滿浪漫與幻想色彩的作品，完美呼應了整場音樂會的主題。
